4th of July

We had a lovely relaxing 4th of July, after much contemplation we decided to pretty much do nothing and just hang out with family. Tracy and Eduardo graciously invited everyone over for a BBQ and we had a lovely, peaceful time - it was great. I just thought i would post some pictures of the day so you could see how cute Poppy looked (even if she did have a little bit of a 'Sailor Moon' vibe going on)

Poppy or Sailor Moon - who can tell.

Go it Granite, go it Granite - Yours 'til we die

On Friday we had the fun pleasure of visiting Anna's old high school before it closed (after 103 years the school district decided that this was the last school year). I don't know who was more excited to go visit it, me or Anna (actually it was me, Anna didn't really want to go but I insisted we go as I have never been in an America high school before and I'll tell you what it didn't disappoint, I felt like a singing, dancing Zac Efron was going to appear at any second! - anyway....). So we headed over there with a bunch of Anna's family (all of her siblings - except Alison -, both her parents, all of her Aunts and Uncles, and one of her Grandma's went to the school at one point of another - that's a lot of people!) and had a quick stroll down, a poorly air conditioned, memory lane. They had most of the school open and had some memorabilia set up (which Anna found herself amongst). My personal highlight though was singing the 'song of the G' - the Granite High School song, us and a bunch of old people stood in the gym and sang (well I watched as I didn't know it - do now!), and we even ended up appearing, very briefly, on the news doing so. It was a great, Anna ran into some old classmates, Poppy got to hang out in the Baby Bjorn and I got to feel like an extra in Grease - all in all fun times (Anna even bought a 'Forever Farmer' T-Shirt, the school mascot was the Mighty Granite Farmer). Some interesting facts about the school:
  • The first LDS Seminary opened at the school in 1912
  • Alumni include James E. Faust and Neal A. Maxwell
  • Anna VanDenBerghe crashed a motorcycle into the school fence, the resulting dent is still there to this day
GOOOOOOOO Farmers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Song of the G
When sight and sound of the campus
Fade in the long, busy years
Yet will return in our memories
Echoes of old songs and cheers.
You, of the field, track and diamond,
Fighters for clean victory,
You who love the fair, square sport,
You'll hear the song of the "G".
Go it Granite, go it Granite
Hear the battle cry;
Go it Granite, go it Granite
Yours 'til we die.
She will remember, you'll not forget her
Though you are far away

She is calling, calling to you ever

Honor the grand old "G"!

As you can imagine Anna was thrilled when I proposed this idea for a photo!

A music award which Anna was presented with at some point or another.

So we were watching 'The Soup" (perhaps one of my fave TV shows) and this clip of Meredith Viera came on and, let me tell you, we must've watched it back about 5 times. It is so funny and she is so mean - I love the attempt at backtracking her comment. Anyway enjoy the video, and really it is very funny, I guarantee that it will make you chuckle.
Also more posts to come later today, including a trip down memory lane for Anna and our little sailor moon.

More peas, please!

Miss Poppy hit 20 weeks yesterday, and she is quite the active 5-month old! It's amazing when we upload photos comparing her now to how she was as a little newborn. At 5 months, she babbles and coos nonstop, smiles 75% of the time and cries 25% of the time, drools more than Georgie, grabs hold of everything within reach (including mummy's hair, which has been cut 3 inches shorter), loves daddy's singing, giggles at a confused Georgie, adores baby Einstein (especially the giraffe in the bowtie--and let me tell you, we have used the DVD's to our advantage during the especially stressful fussy times), and is a master of crib gymnastics. She caught her first cold from me last week, and although we were expecting the worst, with some baby Tylenol, saline nose drops and a humidifier, she pulled through unbelievably well. "She spends 2 days a week at grandma and grandpa VanDenBerghe's house, where she and cousin Edison have become good little buddies. The funny thing is, Edison has yet to learn baby Luke's name, and calls him Poppy a good deal of the time!
As you can see from the pictures below, Poppy is now a pro at eating solids. She's definitely a foodie, or as the French would say, she is a "gourmande". She has already tried rice cereal, peas, carrots and sweet potatoes, respectively. She loves them all (although upon eating vegetables, the rice cereal became a little too bland for her, so we entice her to it with a little bit of apple juice mixed in)! We decided to get a few shots of her eating tonight, because she's adorably hilarious. She's getting very good at eating from a spoon, but if I'm not quick enough getting it to her mouth, she will lean into the spoon as if attacking it. She used to get food everywhere, either by sticking her hands in her mouth during feeding, grabbing the spoon out of my hand, or blowing raspberries with a mouthful of carrots (and turning our tablecloth orange), but she's gotten much better in a few days' time!
Anyway, we realize that most of our blogging these days revolves around Popsicle, but this is the best way for nannie & grandpa in England to get bits and pieces of their ever-changing and growing granddaughter. We miss you! Every day she keeps us laughing and smiling.

Bring it on

Grandpa Dave would love this bib!

Baby Einstein is positively riveting

Here's my 4th of July outfit daddy bought me

Irrefutible evidence that this baby is half English: she loves her mushy peas!
